Information and hype galore as the Key Note address kicked off with the trailer for the upcoming expansion: Shadowbringers!
Following the trailer is a wave of information and screenshots which you can find below starting with the release date.
Following on from the release date, Yoshi P proceeded to talk about the Key Plot points of the expansion.
Once the major plot points were introduced, the features of the expansion came next.
Some of these were the usual and expected, but there were also some brand new and unexpected features revealed. Keep scrolling to find out more.
One you may already know and one seems to be teased.
How many will there be? Will the highly requested Dancer job be one of them?
One of the announced changes was the consolidation of MP and TP into a single resource. Expect a lot of rework to some of the current jobs.
Also mentioned was the intention of making barrier effects more visual so that players can gauge the current strength of the barrier.
Yoshi P says that Pixies and Dwarves will also make their appearances. Will they be considered beast tribes? Who will their primals be? More in the upcoming Fan Fests.
Based on the system from FFXI, the Trust System will allow FFXIV players to do content with some of their favourite NPCs. Designed for the more reserved players in the community, these NPCs should provide some help in clearing content in the new (and possibly old) expansion. Which NPCs will come to your aid? Certainly from the screenshot we see the Scions Alphinaud, Alisaie, Thancred, Y'shtola and Urianger. But who else could we see? Who would you want fighting alongside you? We will just have to wait and see.
Players have been asking for a chance to replay some of the MSQ instances such as the Naadam battle from the Stormblood MSQs. With New Game+, players will now have the opportunity to do so. However, Yoshida mentioned that you will not be able to freely choose which MSQ content you would like to replay. Players must play New Game+ from the beginning. Whether he means the beginning of ARR only, or if players can select the beginning of either HW or Stormblood remains to be seen.
One of the major new announcements, the World Visit System will allow players to freely travel between Worlds (servers) within the same Data Center simply by using the main Aetheryte in all three of the starting cities: Limsa Lominsa, Uldah and Gridania.
Finally you can do non-instanced content with players from other servers such as Treasure Hunt Maps. For more details, head on over to World Visit Section from Live Letter 47
Finally Naoki Yoshida gave a couple of important announcements.
The first key announcement made by Yoshida. Technically the game will still run on 32-bit Windows but players may face limitations or errors in future should they continue to play on 32-bit Windows. It was later revealed in a closed-session press interview that roughly 1.8% of the player base plays on 32-bit Windows.
The second and more pressing announcement was the announcement of World Regrouping for the NA and EU Data Centers. Both regions will receive an additional Data Center, but some of the current servers will be reallocated to the new Data Center. Yoshi P expressed his heartfelt apology for the decision but felt that it needed to be done. Click here for more details from the Live Letter.
That concluded the end of the Key Note Address. Or so we thought. As Yoshida was about to wrap up the session, Koji interrupted Yoshida and telling "Isn't there one more thing? One more ... ONE MORE THING?! Very important!" As though he actually did forget Yoshida acknowledged that there is indeed one more piece of news!
And though Koji asked Yoshida whether he was going to reveal what the new race will be, he wasn't going to reveal it ... at least not directly. As Koji and Yoshida continue to put on an act of confusion and surprise towards the crowd's euphoric cheers, and insisting that they've given no hints, like it was done in the past (and accepted to be tradition) it was all to be seen on Yoshida's t-shirt ...
The bunny girls are coming!! It is all but confirmed that the most requested Viera race from FFXII will be the new playable race in 5.0. Will you fantasia into a bunny girl (or guy) come the launch of Shadowbringers? You can be sure to expect a wave of bunnies to flood your servers.
And that concluded the Key Note Address for the NA Fan Fest ... until Square Enix President and CEO Yosuke Matsuda made his entrance in an intriguing costume! A scripted banter played out between Matsuda and Yoshida about revealing a new job with Yoshida of course claiming that he can't reveal anything because there is already a set schedule.
Ignoring Yoshida's plea to not reveal anything, Matsuda treats everyone with a video of a new job, the Blue Mage!
Oh! Available in next patch!
Wait what? Level Cap is 50?!
And what the @#$% is a 'Limited Job'?!?!
More details in the 47th Live Letter.
And with that, the Key Note Address finally did end. What did you think of the things that were revealed? Are you excited for the new expansion? Remember, the next Fan Fest will be in Paris on the 2nd February 2019. We'll be sure to bring you more info then.
